Story Coffee recently opened on St John’s Hill in Battersea, a short walk from Clapham Junction station. The cafe is welcoming, filled with beautiful but minimalist decor and great coffee. The space is both stylish and functional, as the bespoke wooden furniture and natural light from the large windows compliment the small unit. The bar displays their high spec kit, including a Kees van der Westen customised with their logo adorning the back, and is covered with irresistible locally sourced savoury and sweet treats.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon, first choosing to have a flat white and croissants. They serve Square Mile’s Red Brick espresso blend which is popular in a number of venues in London, but Story’s flat white blew us away and stood out from any that we have had recently. The espresso was not only perfectly extracted but the milk from Goodwood Farm in Sussex gave the flat white a velvety smooth texture. We then had a quick espresso each which was just as enjoyable to drink.
You feel welcome throughout your visit to Story Coffee. We first spoke to Tom as we arrived during their mid-afternoon rush, he took our order and helped us find a seat in the busy cafe. I asked a few questions as Ben took some photos of the space, they spoke excitedly about how busy it had been since opening in October and how surprised they had been about the positive reception they had received from the heavyweights in the coffee scene including Caffeine, Nude and London’s Best Coffee. They were completely humble despite this attention, as they focus on their aim to bring great coffee to Battersea.
"The cafe is welcoming, filled with beautiful but minimalist decor and great coffee."
Story Coffee is a refreshing addition to the London coffee scene and their success is well deserved. As locals to South London this cafe will quickly become one of our regular coffee spots.
